Shrine of Our Lady of the Watch
Perched on the hills overlooking Genoa, the Shrine of Our Lady of the Watch (Madonna della Guardia) is one of Italy’s most beloved Marian sanctuaries. The shrine traces its origins to an apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary to farmer Benedetto Pareto in 1490. Mary encouraged him to build a chapel on the mountain, promising her protection and guidance. Today, pilgrims visit this sacred site seeking comfort, spiritual strength, and the maternal care of Our Lady, while enjoying breathtaking views that inspire prayer and reflection.
